It is said that Monte Cassino was the hardest fought battle of World War II, but it seems that most battles were hard fought. My dad was in the 36th Division and landed at Salerno, Italy on Sept 9, 1943. He was in the action at the Rapido River. Then an anti-personnel mine got him after Monte Cassino and that was it for him for the duration of the war. Anyone else have relatives in the 36th Division?
