I am trying to locate the title/s of books which recount Japanese soldiers fighting on for many years after the war was officially over. Any help warmly appreciated!

One book I read many years ago was called "The Fires on the Plain". It was the true story of a small group of Japanese soldiers (3-4 at most) who didn't get the official cease hostilities order from Tokyo, and then wouldn't believe the calls through bullhorns that the war was over.
They stayed in the jungle for years, starving, growing weaker, eventually resorting to cannibalism.
They didn't actually fight as such, they were mostly out of ammo, and hadn't any explicit orders anyway. They just refused to surrender, until there was only one left. Finally he decided to quit and walked out of the jungle towards "the fires on the plain".
